It is a well-know fact that there are mobile phones like Nokia or Samsung than iPhones. No matter how hard Apple tries fast-paced development of Google’s Android is going on and competitors like other smartphone brands like Palm Pre, Windows Mobile, and others are here to fight for their market share. Currently we should be thinking in a different way – in terms of touch applications not just iPhone apps. You can both of the both worlds by using the PhoneGap framework software. This framework not only gives you the opportunity to package your web application as a “native” application for the iPhone, Blackberry and Android. It may also be able to use some basic APIs such as accelerometer, geolocation and vibrator.
Bad for Apple it has refused to build in the PhoneGap framework into the applications due to some compatibility problems. Apple seems to have decided not to judge apps for the way in which they were built without looking at each and every application individually!
So what is the main trend?
Hopefully there will more and more standards around mobile development and hopefully Apple will be more open with how they handle their increasing virtual monopoly. Given all the restrictions imposed on Microsoft in the last 10-15 years I will be surprised if Apple does not come into the same problem sooner or later. I sincerely hope that Apple will become more open since the whole mobile world’s app developers are waiting for this to happen.
iPhone is really a great phone and Apple Computer has done a great progress for the development of the whole mobile industry. I hope they take responsibility and let people compete on equal terms and have the confidence needed to not lock people into their platform. It is worth mentioning for many businessed and people who are focusing too much on iPhone that there ae many platforms that are worth paying attention to. If you continue to heavily invest into iPhone apps it could prove to be a pretty narrow investment. Pay attention to creating platform independent applications working with lots of mobile phones not just iPhone. I definitely think that the future is in the cloud and on the web, not locked into various enterprise domains.
Today we are the setting the paradigm for how we mix the computers and mobile phones to work together. Computers today (even Apple’s) are extremely open platforms that we basically can do whatever we want with. For the smartphone and the whole mobile phone market this should be not a big difference. I think it is important that we as consumers seek ways to influence companies to give us an open platform with the ability to download applications that we want. App Store is great but it would be nice if there were many powerful alternatives. Something that owners of Apple iPhone 4 should know is that having the best iphone 4 case is the way to stand out and protect your iphone (asin#8866) from damage. Some uniquely designed best iphone 4 cases will make your mobile phone look very attractive.
